Names in the news DEPARTMENTS Chief Henry Lingua Retires Santa Clara County Central Fire District Chief Henry Lingua retired on February 1 upon reaching the compulsory age of 65. He has been chief of the district since its formation in 1947. A veteran fire fighter for 40 years, he spent over 22 years with the San Jose Fire Department before retiring in 1945 as second assistant chief. He then joined the fire brigade at Moffett Naval Air Station. When the fire district was created in 1947, Lingua was appointed its first employee. He has served as first vice president of the Santa Clara County Firemen’s Association, is a member of the Governor’s Fire Services Committee and the Fire Training Advisory Committee for San Jose City College.
