May Fire Losses Estimated dollar losses caused by fires in the United States totaled $105,982,000 in May, the National Board of Fire Underwriters reported. This was a decrease of 15.2 per cent under $124,933,000 for April, and a decrease of 12.6 per cent under $121,196,000 for May 1963. Estimated fire losses were $615,547,000 for the first five months of 1964, compared to $668,322,000 for the like 1963 period, a decline of 7.9 per cent, said Lewis A. Vincent, NBFU general manager.
