Workers Fail to Control Small Fire; Tempe Trailer Factory Destroyed photo courtesy The Phoenix Gazette Based on information provided by AN INCIPIENT FIRE fought by employees, leaped from a bench saw to an adjacent paint shop and before it was brought under control had completely destroyed the Sportcraft Trailer plant in Tempe, Ariz., on the morning of December 10. Five newly completed trailers in the company yard also went up in flame, bringing damage to a total of $310,000. With yard space, the Sportcraft Trailer Manufacturing Company took in an entire city block. Its one-story building, built in the shape of a rough L, measured 250 feet along the length of both wings and averaged 75 feet in width. Constructed of wood frame, with a wood-trussed roof, it was enclosed by metal siding.
