First Combined Telegraph-Telephone Alarm System Placed in Service INSTALLATION of a new telegraphtelephone alarm system marks the Hudson River community of Tarrytown, N. Y., as the first in the nation to combine fire and police reporting on one circuit. Three California fire districts are installing the new systems, but Tarrytown’s volunteer fire department and 28-man police force were the first to use the new communications setup. Superimposed on existing fire alarm circuits, it replaces an oldstyle police call box system which had been in service for many years. Tarrytown’s police and fire departments, protecting 12,000 persons, shared equally the cost of the system which includes 14 Code/Voice boxes and a console receiver installed in the new police headquarters building. Installed by E. W. Bliss Co., Gamewell Division, officials estimate the community will save $175,000 over the projected 30-year life of the system, compared to the costs of other systems. In…
