FIRE APPARATUS MAINTENANCE CONTINUING our inspection of the electrical system and accessories, the next item on our inspection schedule for checking is fuses. Not only do we make sure that none of the fuses is burned out, but if there is any evidence of corrosion on the fuse end caps or the mounting clips, they are to be cleaned to insure a good electrical contact. Fuses are wired in series in the circuit and a poor contact caused by either corrosion or bent clips will reduce the voltage available to the lights or other devices in the circuit. Make sure the fuses have the proper amperage rating, are clean and fit properly in the mounting. When the electrical system uses overload circuit breakers, inspect to make sure there is no corrosion and the contacts are clean.
