Radio Series Features Quincy, Mass., Department A 17-week series of programs explaining the operations of the Quincy, Mass., Fire Department was recently completed by radio station WJDA. The 10-minute broadcasts were heard at 9:05 a.m., Saturday, over the Quincy radio station. Through the cooperation of Chief Thomas S. Gorman, the program’s producer and announcer, Roy A. Lind, was able to delve into all phases of the fire department’s operation, including interviews with different firemen. One of the most unusual programs in the series came about because Lind was riding with Deputy Chief Edward Barry when the latter spotted flames coming from a diner ventilator. Chief Barry radioed for a full box assignment. Meanwhile, Lind recorded the scene as apparatus arrived.
