Names in the News Burton H. Wright has been named chief of the Syracuse, N. Y., Fire Department, and Thomas F. Hanlon has been appointed first deputy. Wright succeeds Simon E. Ennis, who retired on May 17 after over 39 years’ service. Chief Ennis joined the department on January 3, 1927 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1940. He was elevated to captain in 1949, district chief in 1957, and first deputy chief in 1961. He was named chief of department on January 19, 1963. Chief Wright has been a chief officer for 21 of his 36 years with the department. He was appointed April 1, 1930, promoted to lieutenant 10 years later, named captain in 1942, and elevated to district chief in 1945.
