Fire Truck Lights Guide Pilot to Safety in Night Fog Ellington, Conn., volunteer firemen started off the new year with a novel experience-bringing down a lost pilot of a private plane to a safe landing through ground fog and a freezing drizzle at night. After returning from a minor alarm, the firemen were startled by the small plane when it missed the fire station and a large pine tree across the street. Visibility was only about 200 feet, and the volunteers could hear the plane circling overhead, but they couldn’t spot it. The plane barely missed several houses and a barn in efforts to find a landing strip about 7:15 p.m. last January 1. Chief Walter S. Blair and Assistant Chief David S.
