Woman Editor Is Introduced To the World of Fire Fighting Bells, Buffs and Blazes Up until the past year or so, the literary and intellectual life of Mrs. Dorothy Spence Briley has been taken up with the editing and publishing of books covering subjects that range from science to ballet for D. Van Nostrand Company, Inc., of New York City and Princeton, N.J. And then fire fighting—more specifically the book, “Firefighting, A New Look in the Old Firehouse,” entered her young life and she hasn’t been quite the same ever since. Now as everybody in and out of publishing realizes, editors do not have time to sidewalk-superintend the friendly fire fighters at work on a smoky blaze—except when an editor takes on fire fighting as the subject for a book.
