Navy Hosts San Diego Firemen

Issue 7 and Volume 122.

Navy Hosts San Diego Firemen The future aircraft crash crew for San Diego’s Lindberg Field received some practical experience in fighting aircraft fires when the Imperial Beach Naval Air Station in California was host to 60 members of the San Diego Fire Department in a series of two 3-hour demonstrations and lectures. The men—all students in a San Diego Junior College fire science class—were briefed on April 16 and 17 on such things as hazardous cargo, emergency hatches, fuel systems, materials and construction of aircraft, location of passengers and crew, and power plants. Each class of 30 students saw fire fighting techniques demonstrated by the station’s fire department.
