At 8:20 a.m. Monday, August 18, the New Castle County Emergency Dispatch Center received a call of a truck wreck at Delaware Route 896 and Interstate Highway 95. At 8:25 a.m. a Newark Fire Department ambulance arrived on the scene and found that an 8,000-gallon gasoline tank truck had failed to negotiate a sharp curve of the off-ramp cloverleaf, had gone over the guard rail, and was resting on its side at the bottom of a 60-foot embankment.
