6-Alarm Fire, Blast Destroy Baltimore Apartment Complex From Information Supplied by CHIEF The residents of an apartment complex in West Baltimore slept quietly except for a young teenager who smelled smoke shortly after midnight. He traced the source and found the basement of the series of town houses in which he lived to be fully charged with smoke and although he didn’t realize it, all the signs of extensive involvement by fire were present. He rapidly caused all residents to be aroused and evacuated and had someone phone the Baltimore City Fire Communications Center to report the fire. On receiving the report at 12:30 a.m. last October 18, Box 7969 was transmitted with response by Engine Companies 40, 46 and 20, along with Truck 12 and Battalion Chief 7.
