J., fire fighters used a ground ladder to rescue a man who was no longer breathing from the second floor of a blazing rooming house. Once on the ground, the victim was revived by mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and the use of a resuscitator. Because of a delayed alarm, the fire had complete control of the fourstory, non-fireproof building at 18 Chestnut Street when the first apparatus arrived in response to an alarm transmitted at 12:48 a.m. January 27. The fire was threatening to extend to the attached houses on each side, so a second alarm was struck immediately after the first companies arrived. Before any apparatus reached the fireground, a 52-year-old woman jumped from a third floor window.…
