Names in the News DEPARTMENTS Carlson Named Illinois Fire Instructor Gene Carlson has been appointed to the staff of the Firemanship Training section of the University of Illinois Division of University Extension. He will work as an instructor in the Chicago area. Since 1965 he has been a fire protection engineer for the American Insurance Association in the municipal survey department and also was technical advisor to the Hampshire Fire Protection District. Carlson holds a bachelor of science degree in general business, majoring in insurance, and an associate degree in fire protection technology, both from Oklahoma State University. He has studied fire protection at the Illinois Institute of Technology. From 1960 to 1964 he was employed by the Kemper Insurance Co., where he worked in underwriting and inspection sections of several departments.
