Education Commission Named in Texas The Texas Legislature has created a Commission in Fire Protection Standards and Education, and Governor Preston Smith named Henry D. Smith, chief of firemen’s training at Texas A. & M. University, chairman. The new commission has the authority to: Certify fire protection training and education programs as having attained minimum required standards suggested by the commission. Certify instructors who have qualified themselves as fire protection instructors under conditions prescribed by the commission. Direct fire protection research and accept gifts and grants for this purpose. Recommend curricula for advanced courses and seminars in fire science training in colleges and other institutions of higher learning at the request of the Coordinating Board of the Texas College and University System.
