2 New Headquarters Stations San Diego, Calif. The San Diego, Calif., Fire Department is now operating out of its new headquarters in the $5.5 million City Operations Building at 1222 First Avenue. The fire department has a sixbay, drive-through apparatus room and living quarters on the first floor. Department administrative and fire prevention offices are on the second floor of the block-square building. The fire department shares the fourstory and penthouse building, which was completed last December, with the police, health and public utility departments. Constructed of concrete and steel, the building has a basement and subbasement. It is expected that within three years, a computerized communications system for the police and fire department, public works, public utilities and city management will be installed in the basements.
