Cleveland Ready to Welcome Chiefs to 99th IAFC Conference Everything is ready and Cleveland is now awaiting the arrival of thousands of fire chiefs who will attend the 99th Annual Conference of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Sept. 10-14. Cleveland boasts of an unusual geographical advantage in that more than half the people in the United States live within 500 miles of that city on the shore of Lake Erie. The city’s two airports, Hopkins International and Burke Lakefront, are served by 11 airlines, and Hopkins is the only airport in the country with a public rapid transit system linking it with the center of the city. Air-conditioned cars take only 20 minutes to go from Hopkins to Terminal Concourse on Public Square in downtown Cleveland.
