Florida Bargaining Act As a result of an act passed by the last legislature, Florida fire fighters are the first public employee group in the state to obtain the right to organize and bargain. The act supersedes a similar one affecting fire fighters in only a few counties. The new legislation prohibits strikes, work stoppages or slowdowns by fire fighters but provides for compulsory arbitration that is only advisory and not binding on either party to a dispute.
