Names in the News Howard Joins NFPA Fire Commissioner Robert B. Howard Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y., has been named chief fire service specialist of the National Fire Protection Association. Howard, whose appointment became effective April 1, has joined the NFPA executive office professional staff in Boston as a member of the Fire Service Division, which is headed by Martin E. Grimes. Recently retired after a 30-year career with the Buffalo Fire Department, Howard became a fire fighter there in 1943, progressed through the officer grades, and in January 1966 was named head of the department with the title of fire commissioner. As chief fire service specialist with NFPA, he will work on the growing number of problems presented to the Fire Service Division by members of the association and will be the liaison specialist to some of the NFPA technical committees responsible for writing standards in the fire service field.…
