August Fire Losses Fire in the United States caused an estimated loss of $221 million in August, an increase of some $37 million above the August 1972 total, the Insurance Services Office reported. The August figures bring the estimated fire loss for the first eight months of 1973 to $1.8 billion, an increase of $178 million—about 11.0 percent—above the first eight months of 1972.
