Buff Applicants Screened by Clubs Fire engine chasers often draw tolerant smiles from the rest of the world, even including a fire service members. Well, despite the stories we’ve been telling in these pages about the good work fire buffs can do for fire departments in communities of all types and sizes, it must be acknowledged that there is a “lunatic fringe” which the buffing fraternity constantly guards against. What about the occasional “kook” who may turn up to make life tough for everyone? Fire officers interested in helping form a new group of buffs, or bettering relations with an established club, can take heart from this.
