Federal Fire Control Act Approved With Authorization for Academy The Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974, which provides for the establishment of a national fire prevention and control administration in the Department of Commerce and a national fire academy, was signed by President Ford on Oct. 29. Action in the Senate was unanimous and the measure passed in the House by a 381 to 3 vote. Other key points in the act include a fire research program, the operation of a fire data center, development of a burns research and assistance program, authorization for the review of state and local fire prevention and building codes, and encouragement of state and local development of master plans for fire prevention and control.
