Program Established For 47th Annual FDIC Features The program planning committee for the Fire Department Instructors Conference met last December at the Pick Hotel in Memphis to draw up plans for the 47th annual conference, March 25-28. The conference, which will again be held in Memphis, its traditional location, is expected to draw some 3500 men from all sectors of the fire service, ranging from fire protection engineer to pump operator. For those who have never attended, the FDIC is what its name implies—a conference, not a convention, not a training school. And its program is based solely on suggestions submitted by its members—suggestions that are acted upon every December by the program planning committee. The first FDIC conference was held in Chicago in 1928 and it was simply a meeting that brought together eight instructors who had been hired by Midwestern rating bureaus to train volunteer fire fighters—mainly in…
