Fire Service Financial Aid Urged by Bills in Congress features Bills introduced in the House of Representatives during the opening weeks of the current session of Congress show concern for the financial needs of fire departments, the fire hazards of construction materials in homes and other buildings, the expansion of the 911 emergency telephone system, assaults on fire fighters and income tax relief. Three hills ask federal financial aid to local fire departments for “the purchase of advanced fire fighting equipment.” These are H.R. 735 by John M. Murphy (D-N.Y.), H.R. 893 by Melvin Price (D-III.) and H.R. 2249 by Robert A. Roe (D-N.J.). Financial aid to local fire departments for buying “fire fighting suits and self-contained breathing apparatus” is asked in three other bills by the same three representatives.
