Names in the News departments San Diego Changes Dee J. Rogers was named chief of the San Diego Fire Department, effective January 17. He succeeds Chief Leonard T. Bell who retired. Rogers joined the department in September 1944 and advanced through the ranks of Fire fighter, engineer, lieutenant and captain. He was named battalion chief in 1967 and advanced to assistant chief in July 1972 and deputy chief in February 1974. He served for almost five years in the Training Division while a captain and served for a similar period in fire suppression as a battalion chief. He holds a teaching credential in fire science, and has been active in the programs of the fire academy at Miramar College. Assistant Chief George E.
