From the Publishers Desk Metropolitan Chiefs Committee: Problems! Problems! Problems! The Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Committee of the International Association of Fire Chiefs is one of the lesser known groups within the fire service, but one that has a tremendous influence on the service. Members of this committee consist of those chiefs of departments which serve a population of 200,000 or more, or whose departments number at least 400 members. Collectively, they serve some 68,000,000 citizens of this country—roughly one third of the population. The same proportion applies to the Canadian chiefs who are members of the committee. We have no hard statistics, but we would be willing to bet that, collectively, the fire departments represented on the Met Chiefs respond to at least 60 percent of all the fires in the United States and Canada.
