Names in the News New Plainfield Chief Maurice F. Reilley was named chief of the Plainfield, N.J., Fire Department on March 24, replacing Chief John Townley, who retired. Reilley entered the fire service as a temporary fire fighter in August 1948. He was appointed a regular in May 1949 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1955, captain in 1958, deputy chief in 1963 and acting chief in 1974. He was chief inspector in the bureau of fire prevention for two years. New L.A. City Fire Marshal John C. Gerard has been promoted to deputy fire chief of the Los Angeles City Fire Department. His promotion followed his placing high on the eligibility list after recently completing a two-part civil service examination.
