37th City for L.A. Co. F.D.

37th City for L.A. Co. F.D. South Gate, an incorporated southeast city in the Los Angeles area, became the 37th municipality receiving protection from the Los Angeles County Fire Department on May 1. The three South Gate stations, manned by 55 officers and men, became part of the Consolidated Fire Protection District with Chief Lorn A. Wilke assuming the rank of battalion chief in the county fire department. Others transferred according to relative pay scheduling and received seniority in the county according to their South Gate appointment dates. Personnel received all benefits, including transfer request, immediately. The stations, numbered 21, 22, 23 as part of the area civil defense mutual aid plan, will become County Stations 52, 54, and 57. The former headquarters at 8917 State Street will be Station 52.
