From the Publishers Desk Annual Department Reports Make Interesting Reading We always find fire department annual reports very interesting and as a consequence we browse through a dozen or so each year. Most of them are well done, some are fair and a few are just not worth the effort. All of them, of course, list their annual runs, workers and emergencies. The better ones give a description of their departments—number of buildings, units, apparatus and staff services such as communications and fire prevention. Also included is a personnel profile that gives the age, length of service, rank, and salary for each rank. Some of the larger departments report on their labor negotiations and the resultant contracts. All of this makes for very interesting reading and we hope that fire chiefs around the country read at least as many annual reports as we do, if only to find out what…
