Record Turnout of New York Chiefs For 69th Annual Conference Herbert J. Thomas More than 4500 chiefs and their families crowded into the Concord Hotel to attend the 69th annual conference of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs. The conference at Lake Kiamesha, N.Y., also drew 116 exhibitors who filled the exhibit hall almost to overflowing, rivaling the turnout at the annual IAFC conferences. Keynote address was given by Edward W. Bent, supervisor, California State Fire Training Program, who titled his lecture on management and training, “Are You Hung Up on Your Paradigm?” Chief Myrle K. Wise, Denver, followed with a paper on “Innovative Ideas in the Fire Service,” that featured the television training and communications system in his department. These were part of a heavy two-day program that included workshops for both paid and volunteer chiefs plus several major presentations ranging from “The Xenia Story” (tornado emergency)…
