Fire Held to 1 of 2 Bowling Alleys features and The 43-man Midland, Mich., Fire Department faced its greatest challenge in recent years while preventing a bowling alley fire from spreading to an attached building containing another bowling alley and nightclub. The Midland Bowl, in which the fire started, was built at an angle to the Circle Bowl and was connected to it by a 50-foot hallway. The 16-lane Midland Bowl occupied a 90 x 150-foot, four-story, truss-roof building with a one-story branch office of the Michigan secretary of state on one side and a pro shop on another side. The Circle Bowl on Ashman Circle was a 90 x 150-foot, four-story, trussroof structure that was built as a movie theater. It was remodeled to house a 13-lane bowling alley and a photo shop.
