Hotel Fire Prevention Anaheim, Calif., is preparing itself to cope with the possibility of large hotel fires. Anaheim’s deputy fire marshal, Garth Menges, met with managers and chief engineers from eight of the city’s largest facilities, to prepare a “Hotel Disaster Emergencies” procedure, designed to assist in an organized effort, should a fire or other emergency occur. In-house training for employees and prefire planning is a large part of this procedure. Menges cited the use of stairwells as storage areas as a major problem and stressed prompt notification of the fire department. He also pointed out the availability of safety devices such as automatic smoke and fire detectors, fire curtains and a good water supply at a number of the local hotels.
