N.Y. Plans Burn Center New York City’s Mayor Abraham D. Beame and Fire Commissioner John T. O’Hagan recently announced city plans to construct the largest burn center in the nation. The new facility will be part of the planned Hospital for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and will be financed by private funds. The mayor noted that while several city hospitals have burn units, these do not have the staffing and facilities of burn centers. According to Beame, plastic surgeons have long desired a large central facility to care for burn victims. Beame added, “The Hospital for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, under which the burn center will operate, will be staffed by the finest plastic surgeons from the city’s best hospitals and this concentration of talent and experience, combined with the immense resources of the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, is expected to result…
