Miami Uses Station Locator Model To Prepare 10-Year Master Plan features A fire station location model was acquired to assist the Miami Fire Department in the preparation of its 10-year fire master plan. After a careful analysis of the available computer packages concerning data base preparations, cost, implementation time, manpower capabilities and output features, the MFD chose the Rand Corporation’s firehouse site evaluation model1. The spatial complexity of the MFD organization with respect to fire unit locations and the locations of the department’s emergency activities necessitates a computer model to adequately evaluate various deployment configurations. A model provides a means to replicate the impact on service levels by deployment changes quickly, inexpensively, safely, and accurately. Four basic assumptions The Rand model is based on four basic assumptions found to be acceptable for Miami.
