Fire Prevention Display The Des Plaines, Ill., Fire Prevention Bureau has a mobile display van which goes to schools, shopping centers, and civic and homeowners groups to promote fire prevention. According to Lieutenant George Lechner, the van is a recycled bookmobile which has been painted, lettered, and illustrated with a horse-drawn fire engine on its side. The interior has been revamped and equipped with nine or ten fully functional smoke detectors on one wall and a fire extinguisher display on the other wall. Posters and other materials are handed out. Lechner hopes to have a reverse screen-tape presentation with an amplifier system for music and messages.
