Coalition to promote sprinklers for homes

Issue 3 and Volume 150.

Coalition to promote sprinklers for homes The American Fire Sprinkler Association, the National Fire Sprinkler Association, and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) have formed a coalition with the objectives of promoting ordinances that will require fire sprinkler systems for newly constructed one- and two-family dwellings and “improving the level of understanding of automatic fire sprinkler technology for homes.” The coalition met at NFPA headquarters in January to plan for a pilot project in Connecticut, which will incorporate research, public awareness, public education, and code adoption. “My feeling is that we are at a crucial point where we need to be very proactive with regard to fire sprinkler use in homes,” stresses NFPA President George D. Miller. “When most Americans dying from fire are in their homes, homes are where we need to focus the fire safety spotlight.”
