University of Maryland offers scholarship for female fire protection student The first Sarah B. Bryan Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a junior, senior, or graduate student in the University of Maryland`s Department of Fire Protection Engineering this fall. It will be presented on the basis of academic standing and the recommendation of a departmental faculty member. The award was established by John L. Bryan, professor emeritus in the Department of Fire Protection Engineering at the University`s College Park campus, in memory of his wife, who served the university in several capacities for 15 years. “Sarah Bryan thought that the University of Maryland, College Park, was `the place` for women to pursue an outstanding career like fire protection engineering,” notes Steven M.
