Baltimore – CSX Transportation Inc. has processed about 50 of the 200 claims submitted by Baltimore merchants affected by the July 18 train derailment in a Baltimore downtown tunnel. The derailment caused a fire and hazardous materials spill that brought much of the city to a standstill. The claims cover compensation of losses incurred during the standstill. The claims average about $2,000 each. The company has paid nearly $100,000 to these businesses and plans to distribute 1,300 tickets to Baltimore Orioles baseball games to emergency workers who responded to the accident.
