Woman Pleads Guilty to Making False Claim About WTC Victims

New York, NY-A woman who falsely claimed that her husband was a police officer trapped in the rubble at the World Trade Center (WTC) during the hours immediately following the September 11 terrorist attacks could be facing a prison term of up to three years. She had reported that her husband called her with a cell phone to say that he and 10 colleagues were trapped. She has subsequently pleaded guilty to endangering the lives of rescuers.

Rescue workers had begun to search for these alleged victims but were ordered out of the rubble for fear that other buildings might collapse.
