176 House Members Sign Letter Asking for $900 Million for FIRE Grant Program

On April 11, a “Dear Colleague” letter, which had been circulated by Representatives Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO), Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) and Curt Weldon (R-PA), was sent to Representatives James Walsh (R-NY) and Alan Mollohan (D-WV), Chairman and Ranking Member of the House VA/HUD Appropriations Subcommittee. This subcommittee controls the funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The letter, which was signed by a bipartisan group of 176 Representatives, asked Walsh and Mollohan to fund the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant program at the fully authorized $900 million level in FY 2003.
