Washington, D.C. – Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director Joe Allbaugh and United States Fire Administration (USFA) Administrator R. David Paulison announced the next group of national Assistance for Firefighters Grant Award recipients. These 281 departments will receive approximately $23 million in support for their fire service programs and personnel.
The Assistance for Firefighters Grant Award will distribute $360 million through approximately 5500 grants before the end of 2002. Earlier this year a peer review panel of over 300 fire service personnel, evaluated approximately 19,500 applications from across the United States. This group of Assistance for Fire Fighters Program 2002 award recipients is now posted on the USFA Web site at www.usfa.fema.gov/grants. These departments successfully completed this review. In this particular announcement the Assistance for Firefighters Grant Award program will provide grants for the purchase of approximately 75 new fire apparatus.
The Assistance for Firefighters Grant Program, authorized by Congress, will reach rural, urban and suburban fire departments, throughout the United States. A current list of all Assistance for Fire Fighters Program 2002 award recipients is posted on the USFA Web site at www.usfa.fema.gov/grants. Future grant recipients will be posted as awards are made.
