● RODERICK J. FRASER, JR., has been named the fire commissioner for Boston, Massachusetts. He recently completed a 20-year career with the United States Navy, finishing as the commanding officer of the U.S.S. Underwood, a ship that protected offshore oil terminals and trained the Iraqi navy in antiterrorism protection, firefighting, ship handling, and maritime security procedures. During his career in the Navy, Fraser also served as director of engineering, damage control, and firefighting training at the Surface Warfare Officers School Command in Newport, Rhode Island. In his post at the U.S.S. Underwood, Fraser was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for commanding a multinational force during Operation Iraqi Freedom. ● BRIAN BRAUER has been named assistant director for the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI).
