A. After the 1903 Chicago Iroquois Theater disaster and the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904, the NFPA formed a “Fireproof Construction Committee” to study fireproof construction. One of their recommendations was to abandon the use of the term fireproof and replace it with fire-resistive.
