Damages to the High Street home, owned by Alfonso Oliveira, were estimated to total approximately $450,000. Fire officials could not immediately confirm the cause of the fire but advised that the incident is under investigation by the Freetown Police, Fire Department, and the state Fire Marshal’s office.
FREETOWN, Ma. – The Freetown Fire Department responded to a house fire at 35 High St. at approximately 11:56 p.m. on Saturday, February 5th. The 2 1/2-story structure was filled with fire when firefighters arrived on the scene, according to WPRI News and South Coast Today.
Fire authorities commented that the intensity of the fire hampered their efforts during the attack. It was reported that it took fire crews one hour to contain the fire and two hours to extinguish it safely. Saturday’s incident involved approximately 25 firefighters and multiple apparatus. The Berkley Fire Department contributed additional assistance by providing one engine and several firefighters while Dartmouth Fire provided station coverage.
