California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Report Details Firefighter Burn Injuries, Engine Burnover at 2009 Jesusita Fire

The Californai Department of Forest and Fire Protection recently released a report on the 2009 Jesusita fire, a wildland fire in the foothills north of the City of Santa Barbara that injured several firefighters and burned over a fire apparatus as well as a number of structures that were being used by members as refuge. Narrow roads, extreme fire behavior, downed powerlines, and heavy smoke conditions precluded fire suppression resources from exiting and prevented resources from entering into the area to assist where the fire was doing the major damage.

The report contains significant tactical and fire behavior information as well as information on how personal protective equipment and gear reacts under these conditions. Download the report for free as a PDF at http://www.fire.ca.gov/fire_protection/downloads/redsheet/Jesusita/Jesusita_Summary.pdf
