Fire severely damaged part of the historic St. Malo Catholic retreat in Allenspark, Colorado.
Firefighters say the fire has done more than $1 million in damage. The fire Sunday night struck the facility’s community residence, kitchen, conference room, library and lounge, but spared the church that Pope John Paul II visited during his 1993 trip to Denver, according to a report from the Associated Press on coloradoan.com (http://noconow.co/u7tbUT).
Fifty firefighters from 11 fire protection districts fought the fire, and reportedly had trouble getting water to the incident scene. The fire was under control after several hours. There were no injuries.
