Newark (NJ) Firefighter Injured by Vehicle

A Newark (NJ) firefighter was struck and injured by a wayward vehicle yesterday while he was clearing a street of a sparking electrical wire.

A report from the Star-Ledger (http://bit.ly/srFHF1) indicates that the firefighter sustained an arm or wrist fracture and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Firefighters were cordoning off part of the roadway to deal with an arcing electrical wire when a driver swerved from out of stopped traffic and drove into the cordoned-off area, striking the firefighter.

Thought thankfully not fatal, this incident is yet another reminder of the danger firefighters face while operating on roadways.
