A fire at a residence hall at the University of Wisconsin displaced hundreds of students early Sunday morning, according to a report from the LaCrosse Tribune.
The report indicated that fire alarms roused students from their sleep at approximately 4:23 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find a basement lounge on fire. Almost two dozen firefighters attacked the fire which pushed smoke throughout the building. The incident resulted in extensive smoke and water damage in the basement. It was confirmed that all students were evacuated safely and there were no reported injuries.
The fire is currently under investigation by the state Fire Marshal’s Office. Authorities are aware of no witnesses since the point of origin doed not have security cameras. The basement also did not have a sprinkler system according to the report.
