On Monday, July 27, 2009, at approximately 1920 hours, the Hampton Township, Sussex County Fire Rescue (HTFR) was conducting a training drill on the campus of the Sussex County Community College. While participating in the drill, a New Jersey firefighter, Rebecca Crawford was injured when a sand cast aluminum large diameter hose appliance catastrophically failed.
A report released by The New Jersey Division of Fire Safety identifies key issues and remedies that should be implemented within all New Jersey fire departments to prevent a reoccurrence of this type of incident.
