NJ School Evacuated After Fire Breaks Out

Paterson (NJ) – Students and staff evacuated Paterson’s School 28 after a two-alarm fire broke out at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

No one was injured, and students have been taken to a community center at 60 Temple Street, said Public Safety Director Glenn Brown.

The fire erupted in a classroom with a stove that was formerly used for a home economics class. Chief Michael Postorino said that firefighters extinguished the flames, which sent heavy smoke throughout the building, within 30 minutes.

Authorities said it was too early to tell what caused the fire and whether the children will be allowed back in school.
